Advent & Christmas 2019

I cleared off our nature table for the boys' nativity set and put up "waiting" for Advent. The beautiful wooden letters from the Etsy shop Treasures From Jennifer. They are a homeschool family too!

We read the liturgy "To mark the start of the Christmas season" from Every Moment Holy again this year.

I bought this little wreath at Trader Joes for $7

All 5 of us got the flu midway through Advent and it was awful, especially being pregnant. I think it was the most miserably sick I've ever been as an adult. It stole almost 2 weeks of December.

Our paper snowflakes this year. We even laminated a few of them.

After we were all fairly healthy we finally made Christmas cut-out cookies (my mom's chocolate recipe that I love).

A couple of new books we added to our Christmas collection. I read the first 3-4 chapters of The History of Christmas on my own. It is a great resource.

We clipped the sheep's hooves for the first time. Also we rented a ram for about a month starting at the end of November to service our two ewes. We are hoping for some lambs this spring.

We will sheer them before they lamb. Their fleeces are beautiful!

I cleared off the craft table for our winter puzzle.

The boys and I made 96 Pizzelles. They turned our yellower this year, I think because of our chicken's rich yokes. The recipe we used takes a dozen eggs!

For the first time, we waited to put the Christ child with the nativity sets until Christmas morning. We were happily surprised that our 3 year old was affected by this--he was eagerly waiting and kept talking about when Jesus would be born.

A new place for our Jesus/Jesse Tree. We read the first ~8 chapters of The Biggest Story by Kevin DeYoung to go along with the ornaments.

We also are reading through Jotham's Journey to the older boys. We plan to finish by Epiphany. The beginning was, again, a little bit scary (jackals and children being kidnapped/fingers getting cut off)...but we decided to keep going!
